We'll cover the properties of light, lighting equipment, and color theory. Students learn to plan lighting for a space or script, develop conceptual designs, and create a video scene with dramatic lighting.

In this class we'll cover the essentials of filmmaking with emphasis on quickly completed movies. Whether you're trying to complete a project in 48 hours, or just get your short film completed, we'll go over how to move through the basic elements and complete a project.

This class on recording dialogue covers the techniques, equipment, and workflows necessary to capture clean, professional-quality speech for film and video. We will record asynchronous sound with lavalier microphones and then edit it together with live action video and additional sound to create a rich sound track for a short scene.

Raúl Iván Acosta is a Peruvian writer and filmmaker whose creative path has crossed continents and mediums—from national television in Lima to short film festivals in Paris, from rap music during lockdowns to auctioning masterworks aboard international galleries. Raúl believes in stories that make you feel, laugh, and think—and he’s just getting started.
Lisa has made several award-winning documentaries including most recently The Other Side of Learning. She has been working with children in Asheville to make films for nearly two decades and earned the Teacher Innovation Award 2012 from PBS Learning Media & the Henry Fold Museum for her work with students. Lisa loves both making films & working with kids!
